Kincardine Power Station

The demolition of the power station was carried out over a 3-year period starting in autumn 1998. The station was situated on the north shore of the River Forth, to the west of the village of Kincardine. Residential property in close proximity meant that particular care had to be taken to control both noise and dust emissions during the demolition works. Monthly newsletters were prepared and distributed with the help of the local Community Council to keep the villagers fully informed of progress.  

A combination of both conventional and explosive demolition techniques were employed to reduce the station to ground level.

   

Two 122M high brick chimneys were among the last items to be collapsed. These required a large exclusion zone to be set up including the decanting of some residential properties. This event aroused a lot of media attention, provided a great show and quite a carnival atmosphere in the village.

 
   

High reach equipment was utilised to tackle some of the structures together with more conventional hot cutting and wire pulling for the remainder.

    

The contract was successfully completed at the end of 2001 with the site cleared and levelled.
